Community & Urban Living

Active Health Fitness Trail

HDB is working with Sport Singapore (SportSG) to incorporate sport and exercise science into community spaces to encourage residents to stay active. One such initiative is the Active Health Fitness Trail, which will be piloted in Queenstown’s Mei Ling precinct. This fitness trail will feature an exercise path that links up various fitness corners within the precinct and will be complemented by community programming, providing a safe and effective exercise environment for seniors.

Along the trail, residents will find different zones and equipment for strength, balance, mobility, and aerobic exercises. Seniors can also use self-assessment stations and measurement tools to test their strength and gait. Signage along the trail provide health tips and nudge residents to stay active.

Creating More Senior-Friendly Neighbourhoods

To better support people living with dementia and help older individuals navigate their surroundings and carry out daily activities independently, HDB is introducing dementia-friendly features in new public housing developments such as Queensway Canopy. Features to improve wayfinding include pedestrian wayfinding lines that help guide residents to areas such as lift lobbies, drop-off porches and Community Living Rooms, as well as distinctive signage on blocks to help residents find their way around the neighbourhood.

HDB is also exploring ways to bring these features to existing estates and will work with partners such as the Agency for Integrated Care, Dementia Singapore, and the Centre for Liveable Cities to further improve wayfinding.

Wellness Landscapes & Therapeutic Gardens

Research shows that spending time amidst nature and greenery reduces stress, relieves mental fatigue, and improves overall emotional well-being. To bring these benefits closer to residents, HDB is working with the National Parks Board to create wellness landscapes within HDB precincts.

Wellness landscapes, which incorporate therapeutic gardens, will be introduced to bring nature to residents’ doorstep. Designed using science-based principles, these outdoor gardens offer a tranquil environment for relaxation and encourage visitors to interact with nature and improve their mental well-being.

Social and Wellness Hubs

Social and wellness hubs provide convenient spaces for residents of all ages to stay active, connect with neighbours, and access essential services to support their well-being.

At Queensway Canopy, a public housing development under construction, a social and wellness hub will offer various social and communal facilities and healthcare services for seniors. To make fitness more accessible to residents and encourage them to get active, SportSG will open a 1,000sqm ActiveSG Gym at Queensway Canopy, the first-ever to be integrated within a housing development.

At another housing development Queen’s Arc, the wellness hub is an integrated parking cum commercial facility. It features a roof garden with fitness facilities and a jogging loop. It also has attractively designed staircases, to encourage residents to incorporate exercise into their daily routines. There will also be a heritage walk featuring a jogging route and exercise elements.
